My Boat

So ayear and a half after starting this project I'm still not done with it but I hope to be soon but hey everything else takes forever why not this too. Heres the progress so far shortened down a bit to save web space for my Chevette.

If any one is interseted I got the plans from Hannu's Boatyard

2-15-06: I purchased the plywood went to my friend Tommys house and we cut the sides and the transoms. I cut 2 transoms because I wanted it a little thicker than 1/4" in case I wanted to place a small electric outboard on. I epoxied the two transom pieces together.

2-20-06: I glued and screwed the two sides to the 1x1 inch stem. The screws will be taken out later after the fiberglass and resin has been applied.

Then comes the fun part bending the sides and adding the supports that will give the boat its shape. Three pieces cut to the designers specifications screwed in a the designated spots.

2-26-06: Next I screwed the transom into place, another not so fun task. The two 2x3s in the corners are just there temporily to hold it all together. It really wasn't needed, I put about 20 screws down the side into the transom.

3-8-06: After the sides are all screwed together I needed to cut out the floor, so I placed the boat on a the other sheet of plywood and trace the shape. I traced it and then redrew the line with an extra inch or so all the way around. Didn't want to risk it being too small in any spots.

3-10-06: AHHH beautiful weather (60 degrees).Did some fiberglassing.

4-16-06: In the morning before Easter dinner I snuck in some boat time I finally added the skeg on the bottom and put a few more fillets on some inside joints.

-In this pic you can see my storage area/flotation chamber on the starboard side of the center board box, port side will be closed off too but probably just as flotation or hinged for storage, and an old compass I bought at an antique place.

-When I finally cut and installed the mast step I couldn't resist taking it out in yard and hoisting the sail. It's come a long way since it was just a pile of plywood, but I still have plenty to go so I will now try to work as often as possibe. I have to get out on the water this year.
